This unique half-day experience with a cultural focus in the seldom-explored Ngäbe Alto Laguna indigenous territory is ideal for inquisitive adventurers who love going off the beaten path and seek authentic connections with local people.

This half-day hiking tour will allow you to explore Alto Laguna, located right in the heart of the Osa Peninsula, next to Corcovado National Park. Experience a wonderful mix of culture and nature, facilitated by knowledgeable community members and our intercultural guides. You will participate in a workshop with women artisans, learn about the Ngäbe world view through stories and other cultural expressions, explore primary and secondary rainforests, while visiting breathtaking sites such as overlooks, swimming holes and waterfalls.

Come join us, have fun while meeting people, and learning about their past and present realities, and future aspirations. From an artisan workshop to a walk in the forest, this day has something for everybody!

Day 1
Ngäbe Indigenous Territory

6:30 AM: Meet with cultural guide at Osa Wild office, short pre-trip orientation
6:45 AM: Departure for Alto Laguna
7:45 AM: Arrival and Welcome in Alto Laguna
8:00 AM: Woman’s Artisan Workshop - Learn traditional methods for processing natural fibers, dyes,
and making handwoven products from plants in the forest.
10:00 AM: Sugar Cane Juice, Traditional Storytelling, Songs and/or Dances.
11:00 AM: Hike* through the rainforest to a waterfall or swimming hole while learning about culture,
medicinal plants and observing flora & fauna.
1:00 PM: Departure from Alto Laguna
2:00 PM: Arrival at Puerto Jiménez

*Hikes will be provided weather permitting. If the weather does not permit us to hike, alternative cultural activities will be provided. If someone’s mobility is inhibited, please let us know in advance and we will adjust activities accordingly.

  • 1 liter of water (avoid single-use plastic).
  • Snacks (mixed nuts, dry fruits, cereal/granola bars, and cookies).
  • Hiking shoes (protected, comfortable, and preferably waterproof).
  • Light and quick dry clothes, hat or cap, swimsuit, raincoat and sandals
  • Towel
  • Sunblock.
  • Bug repellent.
  • Waterproof bag.
  • Hiking backpack.
