How to get to the Osa Peninsula

From San JosΓ©, take the Interamerican highway to Chacarita. At the Gas station crossing, turn to the right and go straight until Rincon de Osa, there take the right exit just before Rincon river. Then, drive for about 1 hour through gravel road until Drake Bay.

Approximate duration: 7-8 hours

Notes:

  • You must have a 4x4 car to reach Drake Bay
  • Make sure to make a left at this crossing, otherwise you'll have to cross a very big river if you take the old road through El Progreso.

By Bus and Boat

Take a bus to Palmar Norte at 06:00 am with TRACOPA. Once there, take a bus or taxi to Sierpe. Once in Sierpe, take the boat to Drake at 03:30 p.m.

Approximate duration:

  • Bus SJO - Palmar Norte: 6 hours
  • Bus or taxi Palmar Norte - Sierpe: 15 - 20 minutes
  • Boat Sierpe - Drake: 1 - 1.5 hours (depends on the ocean and weather conditions)
