All about Bioluminescence Tour
This tour leaves from Puerto Jimenez’s beach, where you will embark on a memorable kayaking adventure along the captivating coast of Puerto Jimenez and the Preciosa-Platanares Wildlife Refuge. The guide will lead you in search of the resident dolphin population that thrives in these pristine waters. As you paddle through this rich ecosystem, you will have the opportunity to spot a variety of marine and coastal bird species and observe fascinating reptiles such as crocodiles and iguanas.
Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the sunset as it paints the sky with vibrant hues. During this remarkable experience, you can witness the mesmerizing display of bioluminescence—a natural phenomenon created by luminescent organisms in the sea. This chemical twinkling light can be seen almost all year round, but, mostly during the days of the month when we have the new moon in the sky. We can’t assure 100% that you will see it, although we don’t offer the tour when there’s less than a 50% chance to see it. But, even the few times when we don’t get to see it, we’ll always have the Golfo Dulce and the rest of nature to surprise us. Make sure to ask about the recommended dates before booking.
Please note that, during the rainy season, we highly recommend booking the tour on the 4 AM schedule. If you book in the afternoon, we can try it, but be prepared to change the tour schedule based on the weather conditions. Rest assured that our team is committed to your safety and ensuring that you have an equally enchanting encounter with the bioluminescence phenomenon. This adjustment allows you to witness the magical glow of the sea organisms in the serene early morning hours.

This tour depends on the high tide, which changes on a daily basis. Be sure to ask when the tour begins on your tour date.
