Discover a story of resilience and tradition that began in 1975, when Don Carmen arrived in the Osa Peninsula carrying the ancestral knowledge of the "trapiche" (sugar mill). Today, his family—led by his son-in-law Johnny—preserves this sweet legacy alive in Rancho Quemado. This experience goes beyond a simple demonstration; it is an intimate invitation to join a local family in their daily labor of love.

Your journey begins in the field, where you will participate in the entire cycle of sugar production. You will help cut the fresh cane, work the traditional mill (formerly powered by oxen or horses), and watch the juices boil until they turn into liquid gold. You will not only observe but also get your hands sticky as you help mold the "tapa de dulce" (solid sugar block) to take home as a healthy, delicious souvenir.

The heart of this experience lies in the kitchen, led by Doña Noemi, widely known as one of the best cooks in the area. After your hard work, you will be rewarded with a tasting of fresh sugarcane juice and traditional homemade snacks, such as tamal asado, tamal dulce, and rosquillas. By visiting, you are directly supporting a family dedicated to organic farming and community conservation.
