All about Sweet Sunrise to Sirena

This option is ideal for those who want to spend a full day around the Sirena Station but also want to hike along the adventurous La Leona trail which ends in Carate. On this hike, you will cross several rivers as well as secondary forests full of wildlife and unique views.

First day: We start early in the morning at the public dock in Puerto Jiménez taking the shared boat to the Sirena Biological Station on a 1 h 30 min boat ride. You will have the chance to enjoy the beauty of the coasts of the Golfo Dulce, Matapalo, and the Corcovado National Park. Afterward, you will enjoy the short hikes around the Sirena Biological Station.

Second day: Wake up early in the morning to start a short hike to the Sirena river (depending on the tide) before departing to Carate along the coastal trail of La Leona, walking through its secondary forest which attracts lots of wildlife, that gives us the perfect opportunity for some unique and unforgettable encounters. The 20 Km hike ends in the small town of Carate. Finally, our transport will bring you back to Puerto Jiménez to end the tour.

In the summer (December to April), if you’re up for a challenge and you’re an experienced hiker, we do recommend hiking the 24 Km between Sirena and Los Patos Ranger Station for an extra fee. This way you’ll get to see a completely different area of the park and visit the pristine primary forest of the higher mountains.

This tour starts in Puerto Jimenez and ends in Puerto Jimenez.

Sirena Biological Station

The Sirena Biological Station is located 800 mts from the beach. It has two roofed wooden platforms with 18 bunk beds each. Space between the beds is less than one meter apart, resulting in little privacy. The beds are furnished with sheets, a pillow, and mosquito net.

There are nice and clean bathrooms and showers (no hot water available), plus a souvenir shop where you can buy cold drinks, coffee, and snacks.

At the open-air dinning room, you will enjoy a typical Costa Rican meal, big enough to recover all the energy after lots of hiking.

There are lockers where you can store personal belongings for $4 per day. You may also rent towels for $5.
