All about Mountain Trek

On this tour you explore the northern mountains of Corcovado in La Tarde and Los Patos area, a mature and dense primary forest.

On the first day, you start at La Tarde, a rural tourism project that borders the national park and an excellent place for watching birds, reptiles, and amphibians. You’ll discover its exuberant trails and abundant biodiversity.

The following day is a full day of hiking! You head out to Los Patos Ranger Station, accompanied by the morning sun, the howler’s calls, and all the sounds of the wild. After seeing the park’s virgin forests, and centenary trees, hearing countless birds, and visiting a beautiful waterfall where you can swim, you’ll head back to La Tarde to take the transport back to Puerto Jiménez.

Things to bring: Minimum 1-2 liters of water per person, sunscreen, insect repellent, hiking shoes (protected, comfortable and preferably waterproof), sandals, light and quick dry clothes, hat or cap, handkerchief, swimsuit, snacks, camera, binoculars (optional) and sunglasses (optional)., and water filter, purifying pills or other water treatments (optional).

This package is a shared tour, if you want a private guide for your own group, you must add $46 per person.

Day 1
Half-day at La Tarde

12:30 p.m. Taxi from Puerto Jiménez to La Tarde.
02:30 p.m. Arrival at La Tarde and settling in.
03:00 p.m. Hiking the trails at La Tarde.
05:30 p.m. Dinner (included).
06:30 p.m. Night hike.
09:00 p.m. Bedtime.

Day 2
La Tarde-Los Patos-La Tarde hike

06:00 a.m. Breakfast and box lunch to-go delivery (included).
06:30 a.m. Hike from La Tarde to Los Patos (4 Km).
08:30 a.m. Arrival and registration at Los Patos Ranger Station. Start hiking the trails inside the park.
11:00 a.m. Arrival at the waterfall.
11:30 a.m. Eat your box lunch.
12:00 p.m. Start hiking back towards the station.
02:00 p.m. Hike from Los Patos Ranger Station to La Tarde.
03:30-04:00 p.m. Taxi from La Tarde to Puerto Jimenez.
04:30-05:00 p.m. Arrival at Puerto Jimenez.

Things to Bring
  • 2-3 liters of water (single-use plastic bottles are not allowed inside national parks).
  • Snacks (mixed nuts, dry fruits, cereal/granola bars, and cookies).
  • Hiking shoes (protected, comfortable, and preferably waterproof).
  • Light and quick dry clothes, hat or cap, swimsuit, raincoat and sandals.
  • Passport (it can be a copy or a clear picture).
  • Sunblock.
  • Bug repellent.
  • Flashlight.
  • Towel.
  • Waterproof bag.
  • Hiking backpack.

Ecoturístico La Tarde

La Tarde, located in the northern mountains of Corcovado, is a rural tourism initiative that borders the national park and is an excellent place for watching birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

Here you will spend the first night in a simple and beautiful cabin with a stunning view of the forest.

The accommodations include a towel, soap, sheets, and shared bathrooms.
