Prepare to be captivated by the fascinating world of insects as naturalist Jim guides you on an unforgettable journey of discovery with our immersive workshop!
In alliance with specialist Eida Fletes, you will learn from a vivid expert the magical world of fungi, the kingdom that rules all life on the planet!
These masters of survival are very prominent in the tropics, and sum more than 5 million species in the world. Costa Rica is home to more than 4,000 species of fungi properly identified, but it is estimated that there are over 70,000 species. Eida Fletes will guide you on a tour that will take you to identify edible, medicinal, or toxic fungi.
Eida is a local farmer, guide, mother, and scientist born in the community. She has studied mushrooms for years and participates in constant research projects. The fascination and adaptation of these incredible species will make you remember this experience forever!
The Mycology Workshop begins with a half-hour exchange where you will learn more about how mushrooms grow, where they live, their reproduction, and forms of use. Then, you will go for a walk for an hour with your expert Eida to see some mushrooms in her garden and if it is the season, you will pick some for the meal. You will return to identify them in a small laboratory before enjoying a delicious meal with some mushrooms, cooked by your host.
