The town of gold, historically inhabited by poachers and gold diggers, is now an example of a successful community-driven eco-tourism initiative. ACODOBRARTI, the local association operates all tours in the area.
Discover the rich history and living tradition of gold panning with a local Orero in the heart of the Osa Peninsula—one of the few places where ancestral practice is still alive and passed down through generations. In the town of Dos Brazos, you'll step into the world of traditional gold prospecting, learning firsthand from those who continue to honor this authentic cultural heritage. This is more than just an activity—it’s a unique opportunity to connect with the past, embrace a time-honored way of life, and experience the local deep-rooted traditions.
The Osa Peninsula's rivers are still, to this day, rich in gold deposits. The region's history of gold mining has had a huge influence on the culture and the independent and self-reliant personalities of the people. Gold is still panned for in the Río Tigre, which passes through Dos Brazos.
The town's pulperias (local shops) even have scales where they regularly weigh and trade gold. Our Gold Panning Tour makes it easy for visitors to experience how it's done first hand with local expert "Oreros".
